HELLO
Visit the Dojo
Begin Where You Are
Visiting a dojo for the first time can feel exciting, unfamiliar, and perhaps even a little intimidating.
Don’t worry—we’ve all been there.
Whether you’re completely new to martial arts or have trained for many years, you’ll be welcomed with kindness, respect, and a sincere willingness to help you feel at home. You don’t need to know the customs, the terminology, or what to expect. We’ll guide you every step of the way.
The only thing you need to bring is curiosity and a willingness to learn.
What Your First Visit Looks Like
When you arrive, we’ll greet you, show you around the dojo, and answer any questions you may have before class begins.
If you’re participating, we’ll explain everything you need to know, from where to place your shoes to how class begins. There’s no expectation that you’ll remember it all. Simply enjoy the experience and let us guide you through it.
Whether you choose to observe or join us on the tatami, our hope is that you leave feeling a little more at home than when you arrived.
What to Wear
Loose, comfortable workout clothing is perfect for your first visit.
If you’ve previously studied Aikido or Iaido and would like to participate, you’re welcome to bring your own dōgi. If you’re simply observing, everyday comfortable clothing is completely appropriate.
Planning Your Visit
If possible, please let us know before you arrive so we can welcome you properly and answer any questions ahead of time.
If you’re visiting from another dojo and would like to train with us, you’re warmly welcome. Please bring your own uniform and be aware that a $25 mat fee applies to visiting Aikidoka and Iaidoka.
We look forward to meeting you.
Whether you visit for a single class or choose to continue your practice with us, we hope your time at Mushinkan Kokyo is welcoming, thoughtful, and rewarding.
